The "Global War on Terrorism" started 25 years ago today

Today marks the 25th Anniversary of the bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon on 23 Oct 2008. -They Came in Peace...
On Sunday, October 23,1983 at approximately 6:20 a.m. 241 Marines, sailors and soldiers were killed and hundreds of others were wounded or disabled. This was the result of a suicide truck, laden with explosives carrying the equivilant of 20,000 pounds of TNT that detonated on the ground floor of BLT 1/8 headquarters barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. The largest non-nuclear explosion of its time. Other servicemen from 1982-1984 perished from sniper fire and other atrocities. Others died years later or are permantly disabled as the result of their wounds. This makes a total of 270 Marines, sailors and soldiers that died during a peacekeeping mission.

Patriotic Duty???

Dear Draft Dodger Joe: Thank you for redefining "patriotism" for me. I was sooo confused until you lifted the scales from my eyes and brought the light to my poor misguided soul. Oh, wait... I'm getting you confused with THE ONE. My apologies, it's so easy to get off track when HE is mentioned. Here I thought I had been doing my patriotic duty by serving my country for 30 years. Apparently, sacrificing blood, sweat and tears was the wrong approach, all I had to do was write a check to the US Treasury! Gee, I feel so silly. I could have skipped all the long hours, stress, family separation, injuries, lost friends and other issues if someone had told me this long ago.

Remember the fallen

Hard to believe it's been seven years since we were attacked. It seems like the nutroots are more interested in fighting global warming(?) than global terrorism. Hmm... should I worry about polar bears or some islamic terrorist blowing up my family and friends with a nuke?

Fight the BORG!

My first attempt at photoshop, but I think you get the idea.
